England Hockey Coaching
MS Sports Coaching doesn’t just coach hockey at club level, Mike is also involved in coaching at the England Hockey North West Talent Academy (TA) at Fylde. Mike has completed the "Advanced Coaching Programme" lead by England Hockey and is a team member in the Fylde team. The TA programme is for players who have been nominated by there counties as the best in the area. The North West Talent Academy covers players from the whole of the north west (from the Scottish boarder all the way to Manchester). The sessions are built to give the players a high performance environment to give them the best chance to develop. Over the year long programme the aim for the players is to compete in a countrywide competition with all the other Talent Academy's, in which players will be selected to represent England.
Timperley Hockey Club
Mike now coaches at Timperley Hockey Club in Manchester which has further progressed his coaching journey and career. He will be head coach of the Men’s 2nd team who play in the North West Premier League, and is assistant coach of the Men’s 1st team who play in the National League and the team is filled with players who play international hockey.
Lancaster & District Hockey Club
Lancaster & District Hockey Club is based across the University of Cumbria and Lancaster University with 1 Men's team, 4 Ladies teams, Vets team and a thriving Junior section. MS Sports Coaching delivers sessions gained at enjoyment to learn the game. MS Sports Coaching delivers Junior sessions on a Monday from 4.00pm to 5.00pm and senior session on a Thursday 7.00pm till 8.30pm.
Kirkby Lonsdale Hockey Club
MS Sports Coaching has been delivering Kirkby Lonsdale men’s first team session since 2024. The focus of the sessions are to set a positive and fun environment for the players to learn new skills and develop the players game understanding. Working with younger players and experience players gives a good balance for the session, and any new players are welcome to come along. Windermere Hockey Club
In 2020, Mike began his role as player coach for Windermere Hockey Club Men’s 1st team who train on a Tuesday night 8.00pm till 9.30pm. This quickly progressed to also coaching the Men's 2nd Team as well as the Ladies 1st Team. During Mikes time at Windermere, he guided the Men's 1st team to promotion into North West Premier Division which is now the highest team from Cumbria in the league system, where they still remain in 2025-2026 season. In April 2025, Mike announced his retirement from playing, so he could focus on his coaching career, and although this means moving away from Windermere, it will always hold a special place in his journey.
